Climate

Yen Bai has a temperate tropical climate; with average height of 1,500m, average temperature is 20-23oC (37-39oC highest, 2-40oC lowest)and the annual average rainfall of 1,500 – 2,200 mm

Natural Resources

Land resources: Yen Bai has total natural land area of ​​ 6886.28 km2. In which the agricultural land area is 5850.9 km2, accounting for 84.96% of natural land area, ​​non-agricultural land area is 537.11 km2, accounting for 7.80%, unused land area is 498, 28 km2 accounting for 7.24% of. Forest coverage is over,62%, ranking the second throughout the country.

Yen Bai province has a lot of land, suitable for cultivation of water rice, plantation of fruit trees, annual industrial trees and perennial crops, protective and economic forest... which focuses on the following typical soil : alluvial soil, accounting for 1.33% of the natural area of the province; gray land, accounting for 82.57%; red soil, accounting for 1.76%; alit humus, accounting for 8.1%;

Water resources: Yen Bai province has 03 main river systems of the Hong River, Chay River and Nam Kim stream with total length of 320 km, catchment area is over 3.400 km2. Tributary system is rather evenly distributed across the province. Due to the characteristics, the rivers and streams are derived from high mountain with a steep slope so these are abundant potentials for hydropower and water supply for production and daily life of local people.

System of ponds and lakes with the area of 20.913 ha, of which Thac Ba lake has an area of over 19.050 ha. This is the potential for development of aquaculture and tourism.

Mineral resources: Mineral resources of Yen Bai province are relatively diverse and abundant in types with 257 mines and mine points belonging to the groups of energy, building materials, industrial minerals, metals and mineral water ... Yen Bai province has white limestone reserve of over 2,4 billion m3. Metal ore reserve of around 200 million tons, graphite, lead, zinc, gold-originated ore, quartz,.. building material mineral is also great material potential for production of cement, types of paving stone and building materials, normal building material reserve of over 450 million tons, reserves of kaolin and feldspar of over 15 million tons.

Transportation

Yen Bai is the transit province and the gateway for transport links, cultural exchanges with the Northwestern provinces, creating an extremely important role in the economic corridor among Kunming - Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong. The province possesses a wide transportation systems of road, rail, water, and air in the future, which is very convenient for passenger and cargo transportation to domestic as well as overseas areas.

Roadway: There are a number of National Roads (such as Roads #32, 32C, 70, 37) connected with the system of provincial roads, which are convenient for transporting materials and goods to IPs and ICs across the province. Especially, the Hanoi - Lao Cai Highway running through the territory of the province over a length of 80 km is under construction and expected to be completed by end of 2014. Once it has been put into use, it will reduce the distance between Yen Bai - Hanoi to 120 km, between Yen Bai - Lao Cai international border Gate to less than 130 km and between Yen Bai - Haiphong to less than 190 km.

Railway: The railway among Hanoi - Lao Cai - China runs through the territory of Yen Bai Province over a length of 80 km, which is very convenient for transporting passengers and goods.

Inland waterway: Yen Bai province has such inland waterways as: the Red River route (115 km long), the Chay River and Thac Ba Lake routes (83 km), very convenient for the development of river transportation. Currently, Yen Bai province is planning to build one port on the Red River in Van Phu commune, Yen Bai city, near the South Industrial Park.

Airtransport: Nga Quan military airport in Tran Yen district, north of Yen Bai city, is being planned to provide civil air transport services in the period 2015-2020.

Telecommunications

Yen Bai Province has full communication services of telecommunication companies of VNPT, Mobifone, Viettel, FPT Telecom with fiber-optic network connecting to 100% of the districts, towns and cities and 85% of communes, wards and townships in the province. 3G Internet network coverage is 80%, mobile telephone network coverage is 98%, in order to meet the best needs of communication services to all organizations and individuals in Yen Bai province.

Water Supply

The water supply system covers all urban centers, industrial parks and clusters. The current unit price of water supply in the area as follows:

  • Treated water: 7500 VND/m3 (included VAT);
  • Untreated water: 3500 VND/m3. Cost of waste water treatment is equal to 5% of the treated water price (without VAT).

 

Electric Supply

Presently, 100% of communes have access to the national grid, which meets the power demand for domestic use, business and production in the area. Unit price of electricity is in accordance with general regulations conducted through out the country.

Thac Ba lake scenic area consists of ​​over 19,000 hectares, with over 1,300 islands and islets.
