Climate
With terrain sloping from high mountains to the low zones and midlands, in terms temperature in winter, Thai Nguyen has three climatic sub-zones. A cold sub-zone in Vo Nhai district, a temperate subzone including Dinh Hoa, Phu Luong and southern Vo Nhai districts and a warm subzone which includes Dai Tu, Dong Hy, Phu Binh, Pho Yen districts, Thai Nguyen City and Song Cong town. The average temperatures in the hottest and the coldest months are 28.9°C in June and 15.2°C in January. The lowest recorded is 13.7°C. Total number of sunny hours in a year is ranges between 1,300 and 1,750, which is equally distributed for months in a year. The climate of Thai Nguyen has two distinct seasons: the rainy season from May to October and dry season from October to May. |

Natural Resources
Minerals: Thai Nguyen province has rich and plentiful types of mineral resources, which can be considered a major comparative advantage in the development of the metallurgical industry, mining ... Thai Nguyen province has the second largest coal reserves in Vietnam, with bitum reserve of over 15 million tons, coal reserves of about 90 million tons, and so many types of color metal such as tin, lead, zinc, tungsten, gold, copper, nickel, mercury... Mineral for construction materials are also huge potential for producing cement, paving stones and various kinds of building materials... Water resources: Thai Nguyen has two important rivers namely Cau river, and Cong river, which greatly influence the hydrological system there. Land resources: Natural forest area of the province: 102,190 hectares; planted forest area: 44,450 ha. This is a tremendous advantage for the development of forestry to serve artificial wood processing, pulp processing for making paper. The arable land in the province accounts for 23% of the natural land area, with tea as the mainly annual plant. In addition to food crops, the province has a relatively large area of grassland and pasture for cattle thriving and dairy farming. |

Transportation
Roadway: The total length of provincial roads is about 4,815.4 km ( excluding roads through hamlets and paddy fields). It features 5 highways with a total length of 238.7 km, 14 provincial roads with a total length of 310.7km, 140 km of urban roads and 894 km of district roads and 3,232 km of commune roads . The Five highway routes include: 30km of new National Highway No 3, 80.5 km of the old National Highway No 3, 44.7 km of National Highway No 1B , 57.6 km of National Highway No 37 , and 30.3 km of Highway No 17. All the routes meet the grade-IV mountainous road standard and above, with 100% of roads being surfaced with asphalt. In addition, the Ho Chi Minh Highway’s section running through Thai Nguyen province, with 32 km in length is being planned to construct and Thai Nguyen- Cho Moi ( Bac Kan) expressway is being under the construction. Railways: In Thai Nguyen province, there are 3 railway lines with a total length of 136.7 km, of which: 75km of Hanoi - Thai Nguyen route, mainly serving the transportation goods and passengers, 57 km of Tuyen Kep - Luu Xa for the transportation of goods, 39 km of Quan Trieu – Nui Hong for the transportation goods. The internal railway system within the Iron and Steel industrial zone is about 38,2 km, aiming to meet the need of transportation of Thai Nguyen Iron and Steel Company. Waterways: The waterways’s operational total length is 430 km, consisting of 2 main waterways connecting Thai Nguyen to other provinces: 161 km -long of Hai Phong and Da Phuc route, 211 kilometers-long of Da Phuc and Hon Gai route; and 2 inner-province waterway routes: 16km of Thai Nguyen- Phu Binh route and 40km of Thai Nguyen-Cho Moi route. |

Telecommunications
Thai Nguyen province has a telecommunications system connected to national and international network, with stable transmission line created by microwave devices and an electronic digital stored program controller, which now has 27,000 digits (number) and 18,000 subscribers.

Water Supply
Thai Nguyen city and Song Cong township now have water plant with a capacity of 30,000 m3/day, ensuring demand of water in terms of quality as well as quantity for the whole city and township.

Electric Supply
Positioned in the Northern power grid, Thai Nguyen’s power grid is relatively comprehensive. The entire Thai Nguyen disticsts benefit from the national power network, in which Thai Nguyen city, Song Cong city, other town and districts are supported with completed power grid, meeting the needs of living and production. The aims of the power network development plan for next few years focuses on the completion of the power supply network to serve the living and production needs, and with special supporting policies, on the provision of electricity to all households in all communes. |
