Climate
Haiphong features a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and warm, dry winters. The city is noticeably wetter from April through October; roughly 90% of the city's annual precipitation (which is approximately 1600 mm of rainfall) typically falls during these months. There is a noticeable difference in temperatures between the city's winters and summers. Haiphong's coolest months, January and February, sees average high temperatures reach 20 degrees Celsius and average low temperatures at around 14 degrees Celsius. Its warmest months, June and July, sees average high temperatures hover around 33 degrees Celsius and average low temperatures at around 26 degrees Celsius. Sea temperatures range from a low of 21 Cecius in February to a high of 30 Cecius during the months of July and August. |

Natural Resources
Land resources: Hai Phong has a land area of 1527.40 square kilometers, of which land area is 1208.49 km². Transportation
Hai Phong lies on the axis of important road, rail, and seaways nationwide and international. It has seaports, airports, and a synchronous network of roadway transport. Roadways: Hai Phong’s roadway transport is rather convenient to freight goods between Hai Phong and Ha Noi, northern provinces through National Roads 5, 10 and new Ha Noi – Hai Phong Expressway. National Road 5 joins National Road 1, thereby carrying goods from Hai Phong to border provinces of Lang Son (220km), Lao Cai (310km) or to Ha Noi (102km), then Ho Chi Minh City (1,618km). The Ha Noi – Hai Phong Expressway is the first and the most modern expressway in the northern Vietnam. The 105.5km-long, six-lane highway begins at the Belt Road 3 in Ha Noi and ends at Dinh Vu port in Hai Phong. This road not only helps to reduce the time traveling between Hai Phong – Ha Noi from 2.5 hours to 1 hour but also enhances the connectivity of northern economic region, as well as increases its efficiency by boosting the socioeconomic development of the region. Waterways: Hai Phong Port is now the biggest one in the northern region and the second seaport in the country after the port of Ho Chi Minh city, it has the capacity to handle 20,000DWT vessels. 90% of cargo volumes in the northern region are carried through Hai Phong Port. However, Lach Huyen International Gateway Port, which is under construction off the coast of Haiphong, will be the largest port in the northern of Vietnam upon completion in 2018. It is the first public-private partnership (PPP) project between the governments of Vietnam and Japan. The entire construction is divided into two components, A and B.Component A involves the construction of port infrastructure, component B will oversee the construction of two 750m-long container berths with the capacity to handle 100,000DWT vessels. Railways: Hai Phong-Ha Noi-Lao Cai Rail Route and Hai Phong-Ha Noi-Lang Son is convenient to carry goods domestically. Hai Phong-Ha Noi Rail Route contributes importantly to the railway network leading to Ho Chi Minh City. Airways: Cat Bi International Airport, a major one of Hai Phong City, is 5km away from the center of the city, and can accommodate Boeing B747, B777, Airbus 321 and airplanes with the same tonnage of those. Beside domestic flights, the airport now opens direct international flights to Bangkok, Seoul (September 2016). In the future, it plans to open flight routes to Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. |
