Located in the tropical savanna, as well as some other southern provinces Ho Chi Minh City do not have four seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter, high temperatures and rain throughout the year (dry season less rain). In Ho Chi Minh City has 2 seasons is a variation of the summer rainy season - marked dry. The rainy season starts from May to November (hot and humid climate, high temperatures and rainy), while the dry season from December to April next year (dry climate, high temperatures and low rainfall). Average, Ho Chi Minh City with 160 to 270 hours of sunshine per month, average temperature 27 degrees Celsius, maximum up to 40 degrees Celsius, 13.8 degrees Celsius the lowest down. Every year, the city has 330 days average temperature of 25 to 28 degrees Celsius. Average rainfall reaches 1,949 cities mm / year, which in 1908 reached 2.718 mm high, 1392 mm minimum down in 1958. One year, the city has an average of 159 days of rain, most concentrated in the month from 5 to 11, accounting for about 90%, especially the two in June and 9. On the scope of the city space, unevenly distributed rainfall, tends to increase as the axis Southwest - Northeast. Urban districts and the northern districts have higher rainfall areas remaining. |

Natural Resources
Topography: HCM City belongs to a transitional region between the southeastern and Mekong Delta regions. The general topography is that HCM City terrain gets lower from north to south and from east to west. There are three types of terrain. The high terrain lies in the northern-northeastern area and part of the northwestern area encompassing northern Cu Chi, northeastern Thu Duc and District 9. This is the bending terrain with average height of 10-25 meters. Long Binh Hill in District 9 is the highest at 32 meters. The depression terrain lies in the southern-southwestern and southeastern part encompassing districts 9, 8, 7, Binh Chanh, Nha Be and Can Gio. The area's height is in the range of 0.5 to 2 meters. The medium-height terrain lies in the middle of the city, encompassing most old residential areas, part of districts 2 and Thu Duc, and the whole of districts 12 and Hoc Mon. The area's height is 5-10 meters. In general, the topography of HCM City is not complicated but fairly diverse and therefore has good conditions for multi-faceted development. Geology And Soil: The soil of HCM City was formed upon two sediment classes: Pleixtoxen and Holoxen. The Pleixtoxen sediment: This ancient alluvial sediment covers most of the northern, northwestern and northeastern parts of the city, encompassing Cu Chi, Hoc Mon, northern Binh Chanh and Thu Duc districts, north and northeastern District 9, and old inner-city areas. Main characteristics of the sediment class are hilly terrain, with a depth range of three to 25 meters, and oscillation in the southeastern direction. Due to the combined effects of natural factors, including creatures, climate, time and human activities, and erosion and decomposition, the sediment class has developed into grey soil. Grey soil makes up 45,000 hectares or 23.4% of the city’s total soil area. In the city, there are three types of grey soil: highlands grey soil with some impoverished places, grey soil with red and yellow-speckled layers, and gley grey soil. Soils of the two first types make up most of the total area. In general, the main mechanical constituents of grey soil are sandy soil mixed with heavy soil. The grey soil therefore has a poor water-containing ability. The underground water levels change from place to place and from season to season with a range of one to 15 meters. This is acid soil, as it has a pH of around 4.0 to 5.0. The grey soil is of low fertility but has thick layers which are suitable for growing agricultural and forestry trees with high yielding and economic efficiency if rotational and intensive cultivation is implemented properly. Also, the foundation of grey soil is appropriate for infrastructure constructions. |

Transportation
Air: The city is served by Tan Son Nhat International Airport, the largest airport in Vietnam in terms of passengers handled (with an estimated number of over 15.5 million passengers per year in 2010, accounting for more than half of Vietnam's air passenger traffic). Long Thanh International Airport is scheduled to begin operating in 2025. Based in Long Thanh District, Dong Nai Province, about 40 km (25 mi) north-east of Ho Chi Minh City, Long Thanh Airport will serve international flights, with a maximum traffic capacity of 100 million passengers per year when fully completed; Tan Son Nhat Airport will serve domestic flights. Rail: Ho Chi Minh City is also a terminal for many Vietnam Railways train routes in the country. The Reunification Express runs from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi from Saigon Railway Station in District 3, with stops at cities and provinces along the line. Within the city, the two main stations are Song Than and Sai Gon. In addition, there are several smaller stations such as Di An, Thu Duc, Binh Trieu, Go Vap. However, rail transport is not fully developed and presently comprises only 0.6% of passenger traffic and 6% of goods shipments. Water: The city's location on the Saigon River makes it a bustling commercial and passenger port; besides a constant stream of cargo ships, passenger boats operate regularly between Ho Chi Minh City and various destinations in Southern Vietnam and Cambodia, including Vung Tau, Can Tho and the Mekong Delta, and Phnom Penh. Traffic between Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam's southern provinces has steadily increased over the years; the Doi and Te Canals, the main routes to the Mekong Delta, receive 100,000 waterway vehicles every year, representing around 13 million tons of cargo. A project to dredge these routes has been approved to facilitate transport, to be implemented in 2011–14. Coach bus: Ho Chi Minh City has a number of coach houses, which house coach buses to and from other areas in Vietnam. The largest coach station – in terms of passengers handled – is the Mien Dong Coach Station in the Bình Thạnh District. |

Telecommunications
The city's media is the most developed in the country. At present, there are seven daily newspapers: Sai Gon Giai Phong (Liberated Saigon), and its Vietnamese, investment and finance, sports, evening and weekly editions; Tuổi Trẻ (Youth), the highest circulation newspaper in Vietnam; Thanh Nien (Young Men), the second largest circulation in the south of Vietnam; Nguoi Lao Dong (Labourer); The Thao (Sports); Phap Luat (Law) and the Saigon Times Daily, the English-language newspaper as well as more than 30 other newspapers and magazines. The city has hundreds of printing and publishing houses, many bookstores and a widespread network of public and school libraries; the city's General Library houses over 1.5 mìllion books. Locally based Ho Chi Minh City Television (HTV) is the second largest television network in the nation, just behind the national Vietnam Television (VTV), broadcasting 24/7 on 7 different channels (using analog and digital technology). Many major international TV channels are provided through two cable networks (SCTV and HTVC), with over one million subscribers. The Voice of Ho Chi Minh City is the largest radio station in southern Vietnam. Internet coverage, especially through ADSL connections, is rapidly expanding, with over 2,200,000 subscribers and around 5.5 million frequent users. Internet service providers (ISPs) operating in Ho Chi Minh City include the Vietnam Data Communication Company (VDC), Corporation for Finance and Promoting Technology (FPT), Netnam Company, Saigon Post and Telecommunications Services Corporation (Saigon Postel Corporation, SPT) and Viettel Company. As in all of Vietnam, Internet access is regulated; websites containing sensitive political or religious content are routinely blocked,[63] and certain websites have been blocked, though government officials deny that this is intentional. The city has more than two million fixed telephones and about fifteen million cellular phones (the latter growing annually by 20%). Mobile phone service is provided by a number of companies, including Viettel Mobile, MobiFone, VinaPhone, and S-Fone. |
