Danang has a tropical monsoon climate with 2 distinct seasons, the rainy season from August to December, the dry season from January to July. The average annual temperature is above 250C.

Annual average precipitation: 1,870.9mm. Average annual air relative humidity 82%. Particularly, Danang is endowed with Ba Na forest at approximately 1,500m altitude with an average annual temperature of 200 C.

Topography: Varying from mountains to midlands to plains mounts and hills of 700 – 1,500m altitude cover most of the territory, they have sharp slopes (7400), bear primeval forests which are mostly close to the coast.

Soil types: Danang has varying soil types: dune, sandy soil at the shore, saline soil, aluminium sulfate soil, alluvial soil, gray soil , black soil, reddish yellow soil, peat reddish yellow soil. The most important soil type is alluvial soil in the coastal plains, suitable for intensive rice cultivation, horticultural crops planting in the city outskirts. The reddish yellow soil type of mounts and hills is suitable for perennial industrial crops, special crops, medicinal plants, animal husbandry. It has a solid structure propitious to deployment of technical infrastructure building.

Water resources:

• Sea: Danang has a 92km long coastline, vast water expanse with a fishing ground exceeding 15,000km2.
  • Danang sea has an abundant marine fauna with more than 266 species. High economic value marine animals comprise 16 species, reserves amount to over a million tons (according to projection by the Ministry of Fishery). Annually Danang has a potential exploitation of 150,000 – 200,000 tons of fish of different kinds.
  • Danang has several attractive beaches and wonderful sites such as Non Nuoc, My Khe, Thanh Khe, Nam O. My Khe – Non Nuoc Beach has been voted by the American magazine Forbes as one of the planet’s 6 most beau-tiful and attractive beaches. In particular, Son Tra Peninsula projects a splendid arc of the sea stretching several kilometers with large coral reefs-for marine tours.
  • Danang port is a major sea port to Central Vietnam and the Central Highlands, an eastern gate of East – West economic corridor.
• Rivers: 2 major rivers cross Danang to find their way out to Danang Gulf. They are Han River (basin bed surface area 5,180km2 ) Cu De River (basin bed surface area 472km2) which mainly supply water for Danang home consumption and industrial use. Moreover, Danang City avails over 546ha water expanse in lakes and ponds amenable to fish culture and ecologyregulation.

Mineral resources: Da Nang has numerous mineral deposits, concretely:

• White sand mainly found in Nam O, approximate reserve: 5 million m3.
• Granite: Mainly found in Non Nuoc area, however this rock only serves for conservation of the famous Ngu Hanh Son Mountain landmark
• Building stone: This is the main product, mostly found in the North, West and Southwest areas of the city.
• Roofing slate: Mostly found in Pho Nam Hamlet, Hoa Bac Village. It’s grayish black and can be delaminated to size 0,5x10x0.3 – 0.5m. Reserve area estimated at 500,000m3
• Sand, gravel for construction: sand is found on the beds of Vinh Dien, Tuy Loan, Yen, Cau Do, Cam Le, Cu De Rivers, pebles are found in Hoa Bac, Hoa Lien areas.
• Laterite: There are currently 3 laterite mines which have been surveyed preliminarily: La Chau, Hoa Cam, Phuoc Ninh mines
• Materials for land filling and leveling: mainly surface layers of weathered  Bol-Atek slate layers, these layers somewhere may be 40 -50m thick. They are found in Hoa Phong, Hoa Son, Da Phuoc areas.
• Clay: About 38 million m3 in reserve.
• Mineral water: Can be found at Dong Nghe area, natural flow rate at 72m3 daily.

Besides the above mentioned minerals, Danang continental shelf with high oil and gas deposit potential, is being explored. (to be continued)
