VITACO Oil Transportation Joint Stock Company - formerly known as VITACO Fuel Transportation Corporation, was established after the date of the South completely liberated under the Decision No 50 / TC of the General Department of Transportation repealed according to the Decision No. 362 / TM / TCCB dated March 31, 1993, of the Ministry of Trade with the new name was Petroleum Transportation Company VITACO.

By October 2005, the Ministry of Trade issued Decision No.2585 / QD / BTM dated October 27, 2005, to transfer the VITACO Petroleum Transportation Company to VITACO Petroleum Transportation Joint Stock Company. In the 30 years of marine oil transportation business, VITACO is striving to reach and integrate with each historical period of the country's construction:

The initial construction period of 1975 - 1985, this was the most difficult time of the company and also the most innovative and dynamic time for the company to ensure the completion of the plan. With the original technical infrastructure was very old and in a serious downturn, human resources were both weak and lacking, besides that, the company must operate in a closed economy with many barriers, however, VITACO still fulfilled the assigned tasks and always met the majority of gasoline needs of the southern provinces. During this period, the company received all the vehicles and labor from transport team of Hydraulic Enterprise of Petroleum Region II that raised the total weight to 7,700 tons to create momentum for the company to approach the economy with many components.

The period from 1985 to 1994 was the period of renewal of the renovation process in order to gradually bring the economy out of the crisis. The social-economic situation always fluctuated and affected all economic branches. VITACO was not also out of this situation: faced new challenges, the fierce competition of petroleum-based transportation companies outside the industry, the source of goods declined further every day and the degraded and outdated of vehicles of transport. In response to this situation, the company has boldly explored the appropriate forms and steps, stepped out of the old mechanism, developed a new development model and management mechanism properly. During this period, Vietnam National Petroleum Corporation invested Nha Be 1, Nha Be 2, Nha Be 3 in order to increase the volume of transported goods to an average of 50,000 tons /year. Then, VITACO quickly achieved stability.

From 1994 to now, it was the period of development of equipment investment and modernization of transport vehicles. In June 1994, VITACO was invested to buy 22,000-tonne Petrolimex 1 ship, which has been put into operation after that has shifted its position from the main transportation on domestic routes to the ocean route, expanded the scope of operations and moved to other countries in the region. With the rapid development of the fleet size, the company rearranged its organizational structure: merging the river boats to Binh Chanh repair shop, then, established the river transportation and repair service enterprise. In 1999, the enterprise was transformed into a joint stock company. From now on, the company only transports the sea oil, including coastal transport, ocean freight, and marine agency services and concentrated to invest in upgrading equipment for ships operating on foreign routes. In March 2001, the company has continued to invest in oil tanker Petrolimex 4 with a capacity of 30,000 DWT with modern equipment, raising the tonnage of the VITACO fleet to over 67,000 tons and the company quickly changed its business direction: the main business since 1994 has been the transportation of petroleum products, marine agency services, and mainly petroleum ocean transport. Based on internal assessment as well as the prestige of service quality, in 2003, VITACO set up a branch in Da Nang city to promote its resources as well as business advantages of the company to serve the best satisfaction of the demand of petroleum transportation inside and outside the industry. In addition, in 2005 the company invested Petrolimex 8, 37.463 DWT and in 2006 invested to build the new ship, 40,016 DWT, highly automated, this was the double shell ship should meet the requirements of the International Convention. This investment has brought the total tonnage of the company to 140,000 tons, ensured the activeness in importing goods of Vietnam National Petroleum Corporation.

With the main business in transportation, the organization of management and safety exploitation is always the company's special interest. In 1996, the company successfully developed and implemented the International Safety Management Code (ISM) for all vessels and was certified by Vietnam Registry Department for DOC's office. In addition, the company also has received the International Safety Management Certificate (SMC) and International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) for international voyages.

Along with the implementation of specialized transportation tasks, the company has continually improved staff, officers - seafarers. This human resource has experienced and been trained in the regulations, they also met the requirements of the international convention in addition, they were competent to exploit the operation of modern means. Up to now, the capacity and expertise of crews of ocean-going ships have changed in both quantity and quality, thus it helped the company retained its prestige with customers in the country and abroad by the quality of service, contributed to assert the VITACO brand in the marine industry.

With its achievements, the Company has been honored by the Party and the State with the noble awards such as the second-class Labor Medal (1997), the Third Class Victory Order (1999), the Labor Medal I (2004), and was awarded the title of Labor Hero of the Renewal (2005).
